I am now in a town called gernika. My health diet has turned into a alcohol for lunch and dinner diet. I don’t drink when I am home in California. Miss the food in hossegor. Food here is like orderbs that sit out all day where flies, smoke from peoples
Cigarettes, and there spit as they speak to the bartender grace the bar table. Not fun.
Mmm, now what.. well the town is closed until 5pm so you sit and do nothing and wait
To go back into town and drink some more.

Don’t know when the contest will start… minutes feel like hours and hours feel like days. I kind of have a feeling why Americans stay in America to vacation. Why some people would spend thousands of dollars to fly to a county where you cant speak the language, get a good meal, or a parking spot for that matter.. life is great in America that is why so many dam tourist come to our country…. GOD BLESS AMERICA..

Where I am staying is beautiful.. If you can imagine mountains of green grass with huge trees…. Similar to big sur…. Got a parking ticket today. 6 euro please.
The rain poured for about 10 minutes, that was nice…

canon t90, i miss that camera, i loved it.

mm, movies, coffee, other photographers work, models, and music
WHAT MUSIC DO YOU PREFER:
of course it depends what mood i am in, but anything from lynard skyndard,
ozzy, to enrique iglesias
BEAUTY:
yeah, i have a thing for beauty.. always been in love with models in magazines posing for some great photographers, just like looking, but would never want to date one.
WHAT DO YOU HATE:
litter, traffic, smog, abuse, being away from my daughter
AND LOVE:
my daughter, big sur, red trees, fresh air, early mornings,
WHY SURF PHOTOGRAPHY:
didn’t know any “models”, meeting pro surfers was easy
CHANGE ANYTHING:
don’t know, i guess it all happens for a reason, i hate making
mistakes. but like they say, you learn from them.
FIGHTER OR A LOVER:
i don’t like violence, but if it needs to be i am down. i wouldn’t mind
bitch slapping a few people that have it owed to them. as far as love goes
it’s not like they portray it in the movies; that is why i hate love stories. i want my love life to be perfect, but it’s not always that way.

Man, this whole “blog” thing sometimes feels like a full time job.. Other times I have to remind myself, to log in and spend 5 minutes of my time just to type something… Sorry, I am not much into the whole “blogging” thing, but I feel that I need to since I have a blog link on my site.

So what is new. Sigma gave me some new equipment. They gave me (hold on I need to go out to my truck and get my camera bag).. ok, I am back.. I got the 10mm f2.8, 24-70 f2.8, 100-300 f4 and last the 300-800 f5.6.

There are no waves and all the pros are in town =(
Um went to Malibu for the invitational, shot motocross, tennis, etc… blah, blah, blah… Ok, so I will try my best to get back into the swing of things and spend more time blogging about life or whatever else I feel like writing about… oh yeah, I am stoked winter is almost here, I hate the heat…

What I learned last night while watching some MANswers on Spike tv was the way you can tell a girl is a girl is this; Girls index finger (pointer finger) is longer then there ring finger. A guy’s pointer finger is shorter then his ring finger..
So next time your questioning the person your getting close to check the fingers..

When I think of being ahead of the times, America is usually way ahead of everyone else in the world. Probably 90% of the time, but we are just now “texting” and “going green”. Australians have been texting for years now. I would go over there, and everyone would be texting sooo fast. They wouldn’t call each other, if you wanted to reach someone you had to text. Then you have this “going green” is cool only because some actors are doing it.. I mean come on, were just now caring about our earth. The French are the most eco friendly people I have seen. I think it would b cool if we had “plant a tree day”…

Most people hate ad’s when there reading a magazine. I love them. I love fonts, logos, ads, the photos, everything.. I guess you can say that is marketing! There are signs, logos, font’s, billboards everywhere you drive. Running three business’s ( surf images, surf photography, wedding & family portrait photography ) I also have to always think of new and exciting things for my sites, or stationary. I am a one man army so it’s all on my shoulders. I hope one day, I can have a full time assistant, but for now I am doing it all.

Today (yesterday) was going to be another huge race in Nascar. Over 180,000 people in the stands, friends, fans (drunk), family, media, and then you have probably close to a million fans such as myself at home watching it on tv. Just waiting for those magic words, “Gentlemen, Start your Engines”! It never came, but one thing did, and that was the rain. Mother nature plays a part in Nascar, just in the same way in Surfing. Wct’s are always geared around to what the surf is doing. The waves are up, then there not, maybe tomorrow, ah, should had ran it yesterday.. What a huge party foul that must had been for anyone in the stands at Lowes Motor Speedway yesterday. You pretty much plan all year for this one event, get time off from work, get your newest brightest Nascar shirt, beer in hand, arrive hours early, sit around for hours watching the dryers on the track (more mind games,
thinking were going to go racing, because the dryers are out), your drunk as a skunk, trying to act happy, but a part of you is saying “we aint going racing”. So then you become not a happy drunk, but more of; you just got slapped in the face by this rain drunk. Now you need to sober up and drive yourself home. Well, today is Monday and there going to try it again, and I will be watching it on my couch (sober) rooting for my favorite driver, Earnhardt Jr.

I miss shooting Body Boarding

There was once a time I use to shoot body boarding more then surfing. I really liked shooting body boarding and still would, but it’s kind of died out compared to what it use to be. Some of my favorite’s to shoot were Paul Roach , Fred Booth, Ross Mcbride , Jeff Hubbard, and anyone that would drop in a Waimea Shorebreak (this is the surf spot on the inside of Waimea Bay. When the waves get over 20-25ft at Waimea, then the shorebreak gets 10-15ft), oh yeah, I also liked Chris Won and Cavin Yap. Body boarding and surfing are so a like, but yet body boarders can do more flip tricks in the air and put there bodies in the weirdest positions (the good ones at least). Paul Roach was the king of drop knee; nobody came close to him as far as style, speed, and moves.. Fred Booth, was very tall and skinny and would just do the best looking airs. Ross, was just your typical photo slut body boarder and Jeff Hubbard would always launch the highest.

It’s Got to be in your Blood!

I have been thinking to update my site with some “skateboard” images. So I went to my neighbor, ex-pro skater (he got injured and can’t skate any big ramps no longer) Matias Ringstrom regarding shooting some skate images. He mentioned going to the YMCA here in Encinitas. He said there are always some decent skaters there skating the half-pipe.
So yesterday having my camera gear in my truck ready to go, I drive by, get one street away and kept going. I just couldn’t find it in me to go in and shoot skating. Why not? It’s just not in me. As a photographer you can’t “fake” what you want to shoot, it will show in the shots. I feel weird sometimes being categorized by being a “surf photographer”. I look at my own work, and say, how boring, anyone can take those shots. In reality, not just anybody. Shooting images is more then just picking up a camera (or your cell phone these days) and taking a picture. My heart is 110% behind shooting surfing! I know it. It’s kind of like could you imagine Ozzy Osbourne coming out with a rap album. If I had pulled into the YMCA, I would had been fooling myself. I didn’t want to be there nor did I want to shoot some random skater on some “over photographed” ramp. Going to the YMCA is such a cop-out kind of thing when you need “skate shots”. I want creative, artsy, a good skater (Danny Way or a Tony Hawk) “why not want the best?”.. In life most people hate there job’s, but they put there head down and do it anyways. Yes, if I had a client (paying) that wanted me to shoot skating, I would do the same thing; put my head down and shoot the photos the best way possible for them. You got to want it, and for me nobody was paying me money to go shoot some skate images, it was my mind playing tricks on me. My heart was telling me different, and I went with my heart!

Writers are Like DJ’s

We hear and see there words pretty much everyday (if you read or listen to the radio). We never get to see there face. We imagine what the look like by the sound of there voice (dj’s).
You can even say the same thing when you speak to someone on the phone. It’s crazy by just there voice your mind starts racing, “I picture him with red hair, kind of that computer geek looking type” or “god, she sounds sooo hot”… I like to imagine what the dj’s always look like when I am listening to my favorite radio station (this year it’s been 95.7 (country) here in San Diego then going North it cuts out in Dana Point). Yes, I could go to there website to see there faces, but then that would ruin it. It’s kind of like a fun and dumb game at the same time. Then there are the times when you speak to someone on the phone for months or even years, and again that whole time your imagining what they look like. You have it down to a tee. Then the day comes and you meet; wow, in your head your tripping cause you pictured the person so much different. I have had people judge me for just reading my name in magazines, then they meet me and say, “I thought you were like in your 40′s”.

Beemer, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Not Here

What do girls like a guy to drive? Here in Cali, it’s all about what car you have. Lets see, pro skater Ryan Sheckler drives a Ferrari. Snowboarder Shaun White drives a Lamborghini. Then the others have some sort of Beemer and for the top surfers it’s usually some suped up truck. Well, in Florida it’s a straight up John Deere. This image really gives meaning to the one song, “she thinks my tractor sexy”…

I have been to enough wct’s (world championship tour) to understand every surfer is there to do two things. Every ct, it’s like two contest in one; who can take out/beat Kelly (Slater) and who can win the contest. Kelly is like a one man army. He has forty three surfers that want to take him down or more so, don’t even want to be in a heat against him. All eyes are on Kelly’s every move before, during and after his heats. Yes, I know as I write this he currently sits in 25th place with three 17th finishes. So is my theory not true anymore, no, it’s true. If your the surfer who takes down Kelly, you are the one everyone is stoked on for the time been. Yes, you can call me a Kelly fan. I am an American, and yes I want to see an American be at the top.
